November 23 marked the first of Offploy’s employer services webinars – and we sure started the series with a bang. Our 90-minute session blended first-hand insight and practical advice on the importance of breaking down barriers, changing perceptions, and encouraging a diverse range of candidates to apply and succeed within the modern world of work.
As well as hearing from Offploy’s own Jacob Hill, Richard Strauss, and David McAllister, we also spoke with Matthias Stausberg, group advocacy director for Virgin, Rebecca Morgan, head of HR for Johnsons Hotel Linen, and Sally Eley, foundation director at City & Guilds Group.
Together, our panel explored why it’s important to offer another chance to those with a criminal record and how organisations might get started – with Richard Strauss (our director of sustainability) opening proceedings by sharing his own experience of life inside HMP Wealstun – where he met our founder, Jacob.
Not only that, but one of our extended team members, David McAllister, guided the audience through the various DBS checks – an often tricky and misunderstood area of recruitment – explaining the nuances between applicants and vacancies, and when they are/aren’t needed.
Of course, regular readers of the Offploy blog will know our story well, and we’re humbled to be able to support people who have previously been discarded by society in furthering their life and ambitions – in reaching their potential.
That’s why, even if you couldn’t attend, we’ll be sharing some of the key takeaways from our speakers over the coming days, but if you can’t wait until then, you can watch the recorded event – in full – here.
